Artist Profile

Iain Faulkner was born in Glasgow in 1973 where he was raised and educated. As a child Faulkner was encouraged and guided by his father, an electrical engineer, for whom drawing was both a job and a pastime.

Iain went on to Glasgow School of Art graduating in 1996 with BA Honours Degree in Fine Art. Faulkner is however, largely self-taught and from the start of his professional career chose to follow the difficult and demanding path of figurative painting.

The results of his endeavours during his relatively short career have brought a considerable measure of success His solo shows in London and New York selling out were a clear indication of the public’s appreciation and interest in his work.

Faulkner’s paintings are about capturing calm and contemplative moments, intimate exchanges, inner-reflection and stillness. Iain readily acknowledges his influence by artists such as Sargent, Degas, Whistler and especially Vermeer, whose use of everyday scenes portray figures completing common-place tasks while deep in thought.
