New For 2016: Dartmoor Walking Festival

Planning an art buying trip this summer and looking for things to do in Devon while you’re here? Well, you’re in luck, as nearby Dartmoor is hosting a celebration of the local area during the last weeks of summer, which will help you discover ‘Dartmoor on Your Doorstep’. 

Dartmoor Walking Festival will take place between the 27th August and 4th September, neatly squeezing in the August Bank Holiday and ending before the family needs to be back at school. This gives you lots of time to check out the beauty of this National Park. 

The park itself will be host to many of the events, including ranger walks as well as those focusing on the areas archaeology, alongside exclusive talks by renowned speakers and a night time demonstration by the park’s Search and Rescue team. 

If you’re truly an art-lover, we can make some special recommendations for the rest of your time spent in Dartmoor – after all, it’s a beautiful area which has inspired many of have walked its trails. 

The Tamar Valley, for example, is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and inspired artists such as Joseph Mallord William Turner during his visits in the 19th century. His own pencil sketches can be seen in the Tate gallery archives here. 

There are many artists who live in the area too, so you never know who you might see out painting the landscape on a day with nice weather.
