Paul is a contemporary marine wildlife artist living in Horsham, West Sussex. A four-time finalist in the prestigious ‘David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year’ competition he has exhibited and been represented by galleries across the South East of England and now in the South West as well.
Paul’s unique style of art is a direct result of his obsession with scuba diving. He etches sheets of copper, brass and aluminium to create carefully controlled patinas which recreate the effects of water, visibility and reflections found below our oceans. He has spent almost a decade researching the chemical processes needed to create stable, colourful patterns which complement the subjects of his pieces.
His diving excursions have taken him to a large number of the world’s oceans and seas from Mexico and Egypt to the Maldives and Philippines. He shoots footage and takes photographs which become his source reference material, but his main focus is on the health of the ocean. His aim through his art is to raise awareness of the life underwater which helps sustain our own on land. He is also mildly obsessed with koi carp!
