Peter Dee joins Mayne Gallery, Stand C7, at the Battersea Affordable Art Fair, March 4-8 March. Born and raised on a farm in County Kerry, Peter Dee developed an early affinity for observing the quiet beauty of everyday objects. After moving to Dublin in his early twenties, he refined his natural talent into the accomplished practice for which he is now recognised. Since first exhibiting publicly in 2002, Peter’s work has generated strong interest and consistent success with collectors. Working primarily in oils, Peter specialises in classical still life. Painting exclusively from life and using only natural light, he transforms simple arrangements of fruit, bottles and earthenware vessels into richly atmospheric compositions. His careful orchestration of objects and space creates a subtle sense of drama, while his sensitive handling of light reveals the varied textures and surfaces of each subject. Influenced by contemporary Dutch still life traditions and artists such as David Leffel, Greg Kreutz and Henk Helmantel, as well as Irish painters Padraig Lynch and James English, Peter brings a timeless quality to his work. His paintings sit comfortably within the classical realist tradition while retaining a freshness and vibrancy that appeal to both new and established collectors.
