I am an observational oil painter based in Devon, working primarily from life. My still life's are created in my studio, while I venture out on location to paint plein air landscapes.
For me, still life painting represents a quest for peace and tranquility. The calm I experience while painting is something I hope to convey to the viewer. They are a reflection of gratitude, a celebration of the small, often overlooked beauties of everyday life.
Landscapes, on the other hand, are an attempt to capture as much of the scene as possible—the ever-changing light, weather, and clouds. I strive to convey the passing of time rather than simply a static moment in time.
I studied under Louise Courtnell, who trained under her mentor Robert Lenkiewicz. Robert’s teachings focused on the understanding of tone, a skill that Louise has passed on in her own instruction.
