For Mckinstry, these fundamental sensations of peace and calm are encountered whilst outdoors in nature; from small harbours and hamlets dotted around the Cornish coast to rural farmhouses and cottages tucked away beneath granite tors high up on the moors. His paintings are inspired by how a place impacts him in the moment, it is this feeling that he aims to distill on the canvas.
