A diligent self-taught artist, constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity and mastery, fueled by his adoration of the River Dart, the moors, and woodlands he walked all his life, sketchbook always at the ready. James’ family connection with South Devon dates back many generations to a time when his great, great, grandfather worked on the Dart as a shipwright. Having painted largely for his own enjoyment whilst pursuing 20 year-long career in antiques, we first met James in the summer of 2012 at his local debut exhibition, which was an overwhelming success.
We worked closely with James from then on, with sold out shows year on year. Attracting avid collectors throughout the UK and internationally. James was a humble man who possessed incredible artistic talent. A private yet complex character who captivated art enthusiasts across the globe with his striking, inimitable artworks.
James lived and painted in his apartment in South Devon, with his sitting room as his studio. Creating stunning paintings right up until his passing in March 2023, a tragic loss for those who knew and loved him in person and through his art. He captured the places he loved to spend time, especially in the quiet solitude of dawn.
